Asbestos Awareness Course

Course Overview

The course can be held as a ‘stand-alone’ course or as part of a triple certification course. A tested and company certificated activity-based course with a syllabus covering the requirements of Regulation 10 to the Control of Asbestos Regulations.

3 – 4 hours

Those that work in construction (and other industries) and whose activities may result in discovery of hidden asbestos, and managers and supervisors.

Course Contents

Course explanation and aims	Hygiene requirements
The properties of asbestos and its effects on health (including its interaction with smoking)	Decontamination procedures
The types of products or materials likely to contain asbestos	Waste handling procedures
The operations which could result in asbestos exposure	Medical examination requirements
The importance of preventive controls to minimize exposure	The control limit and the need for air monitoring
Safe work practices, control measures and protective equipment	Films and activities shall be used to reinforce good practice and to highlight malpractice
Emergency procedures	Theoretical test (multiple choice)
